Spring update on Calgary’s Real Estate Market from Calgary's #1 Remax Team: Rooney, Cronin + Valentine

SALES DROPPED

Pre-owned homes sales dropped in Calgary last month about 20% from the same time last year. This may be somewhat deceptive as last May saw a sharp increase in sales as the economy seemed to be turning around. Not-withstanding, sales are slowing down slightly as higher interest rates and global economic worries diminish the buyer pool. Does this mean we are entering another housing drop? We don’t think so, Calgary real estate was recently evaluated as the most affordable of all major Canadian cities for acquiring real estate, based on income, personal taxes and house prices. The last time we were in this position was 2004 after which the housing market took off.
